Egra blast: Calcutta High Court accepts petition for NIA investigation

A petition has been filed in the Calcutta High Court seeking a probe by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) into the blast that killed nine people in an illegal firecracker factory in Egra, West Medinipur.

On Wednesday, a division bench of Chief Justice Justice TS Sivagnanam and Justice Hiranmoy Bhattacharya accepted the petition filed by Leader of Opposition Shubhendu Adhikari.  An application has been filed for urgent hearing in the matter. Court sources have told that the case will be heard on Thursday itself.

It is noteworthy that before this, State BJP President Sukant Majumdar had also written a letter to Union Home Minister Amit Shah demanding NIA probe. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has also said that the state government has no objection to the NIA probe.

After filing a petition in the High Court, Trinamool Congress spokesperson Kunal Ghosh has said that it is an accident. Even when Shubhendu was in Trinamool Congress, there were many accidents in his area. The reality is that he has no issue for the politics of the opposition, so he is doing Shakuni's politics.

Kunal also said that when the Chief Minister of the state itself has made it clear that there is no objection to the NIA probe, then such a petition is not going to cause any problem.
